Patients at Sivanna Health are seen by appointment only.

The Initial Integrative appointment is a minimum of one hour long- if you know you have more complex issues requiring more time please bring this to the notice of the receptionist when making your appointment, so they can allow for a longer period.

A comprehensive history and relevant examination and investigations will be carried out. A follow up appointment will also be booked. This will range from 30mins to 45mins depending on the complexity.

Please bring along all previous blood test results, reports, X rays or any specialist letters to the initial appointment.

Sivanna Health strives to provide our patients and clients with the best possible care.

Please keep to your appointment time, and where possible to try and arrive 15 minutes before the time especially if any pre consult tests are to be carried out, or questionnaires require to be filled out.

If for any reason you cannot get through please email us at info@sivannahealth.com.au

Please let us know as soon as you can. We require a minimum of 48 hours notice for cancellation of initial one hour appointments or 24 hour notice for a follow up appointment. A full fee is charged to patients who do not provide us with the required notice (100% of the consultation fee).

Your medical records are treated as a confidential document. We have a centralised record system which means all practitioners keep their information in one place. This makes it easier to coordinate your care.

Your information will not be released to anyone without your prior written consent.

It is important to note that your Personal Health Information and Medical Record may be collected, used and disclosed for the following reasons:

For communicating relevant information with other treating doctors, specialists or allied health professionals. For follow up reminder/recall notices. Accounting/Medicare/Health Insurance matters.

If you have any concerns or wish to restrict access to your personal health information please discuss these with your doctor/practitioner or the Practice Manager.

It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information according to privacy laws and health acts. All sensitive documents are destroyed.

Our practitioners have a legal obligation to ensure that medications and referrals are provided in an appropriate, and necessary manner. For this reason we do not issue prescriptions, referrals and pathology requests outside of a consultation with the doctors, whether it is face to face or a phone consultation. If you require repeat prescriptions or referrals, please make an appointment to have these prepared for you.

Medications, even long-term ones – should be monitored regularly to ensure that they are still appropriate for your health and wellbeing.

If the doctor chooses to provide you with a prescription or referral (without consultation) there will be a $30 charge for this, payable to the practice before the documents are provided.

There is a ramp for easier access for wheelchairs and prams.

Parking is provided for patients and clients at the rear of the building, from where you can enter the practice. A disabled parking space is also available, with easy access to the disabled ramp.

Sivanna Health is a newly opened boutique medical practice, our current hours of opening is from Monday to Friday 10am-6pm we are expecting to increase our hours of operation as we grow. The Integrative GP is available for consultations at this stage on certain days, please check with reception.

Our most common fees for consultations and treatments can be requested from the receptionist. Fees vary depending on the type of service, complexity and time taken. The consultation/treatment fees do not include other charges such as remedies, herbal medicines, supplements, vaccines or blood tests.

We appreciate full payment at the time of consultation. Credit card facilities (Visa & MasterCard) and EFTPOS are available. We also accept cash.

Claiming on medicare or health funds is available.

Our GP services attract refunds from Medicare (note, that we do not “bulk bill”). We can process your Medicare claim online for you. Your refund will be deposited by Medicare into your nominated bank account (once you have set this up).

Complementary therapies are covered by most private health insurance funds. We also have HICAPS to obtain immediate refunds for osteopathic, acupuncture, naturopathy, psychology and massage treatments from the private health funds that offer that service.

Discussion of Pathology test results will require a consultation to discuss the interpretation and significance of the findings. Please do not assume that you will be called with the results. You will be required to make a follow up appointment once these are available.

Pathology tests may not be covered by Medicare, the practice also uses integrative pathology labs for more specialised testing which could further assist in the evaluation of your health condition.

Make sure you bring all previous test results to your first appointment that will be relevant and helpful to the doctor, to prevent tests being repeated and charged for.

This practice offers both western /conventional medicine and holistic medicine. We are a medical practice that can order pathology tests, x rays, write prescriptions for pharmaceutical medications, imaging, referral to specialists and allied practitioners. We work within the Medicare system, but do not bulk bill.

Sivanna’s model of health care follows the integrative health care model, which is to provide more time to patients who have more complex health issues. Our aim is to Treat the cause of dis-ease rather than symptoms alone.

We wish to provide value based health care rather than a volume based approach. We give you time and listen to your problems and together with yourselves embark on a positive health journey.

Success in achieving health and wellbeing lies in the awareness of self responsibility and the willingness to engage in a doctor patient partnership, whereby the doctor is a guide and facilitator to better health.

Medicinal plants have always been used as natural first aid remedies such as rubbing dock leaves onto nettle stings or applying lavender oil to treat burns.
Whilst much of this tradition has been lost in modern times, there is a resurgence of public interest in the use of local plants for minor ailments.  Many herbalists run beginners’ courses where you can learn more; from plant identification to making remedies.

There are many instances in which herbs and pharmaceutical drugs work well together.
However, in some situations, there can be negative interactions. Some herbs, like St John’s Wort, cannot be taken along with certain other medicines.  Your naturopathic herbalist is trained to know which herbs to use safely and will be able to advise on any situation.

There is no definitive answer because so many variables will influence the duration of treatment. Our biological makeup is as unique as our medical histories and bodies heal at differing rates.

Influential factors affecting length of therapy required include:

•    The condition
•    Severity of the condition
•    How long it has been present
•    Past medical history
•    Drug history
•    Current health status

Your herbalist may be able to give you an estimated guideline once they have taken a detailed case history.  It is important that progress is closely monitored and herbal prescriptions are adjusted accordingly over time.
Herbal medicine can sometimes take longer before beginning to achieve their desired effect when compared to pharmaceutical drugs. However, its gentle, supportive action aims to address the root cause of the condition and therefore usually produces more permanent results. In addition, when correctly prescribed, side effects are rare.
Whilst the above is applicable for chronic cases, the right dose of herbs can produce immediate results. Medical herbalists working in First Aid situations often resolve acute issues within hours or days.
As the choice of herbs and appropriate administration are key to safety and efficacy, professional advice is recommended.

Yes, most definitely.

We advocate the integrated safe use of medicinal plants for our patients by working with other healthcare practitioners such as GPs, nurse practitioners, and specialists. It is very important that all healthcare providers responsible for your care are fully informed about the herbs and drugs you are taking, including over the counter products and food supplements. This is important in order to avoid possible herb/drug/supplement/food interactions. Our naturopathic herbalist is aware of the difficulties involved and will provide information on request and with your permission will liaise with any of your other healthcare providers.

Naturopathic herbalists often work alongside, and in co-operation with, a wide range of practitioners, including conventional healthcare professionals, and this is something that we are keen to continue and develop.
